Breathe deeply, live the moment, let the mind wander …

You can enjoy these simple pleasures throughout the year. The city and its neighborhoods are readily available as land of adventure to the walker who knows how to outsmart the traps (noise, pollution, the omnipresence of the car) and discover the places that delight them. A great way to reconnect with yourself when everything shakes around, the ride is also an urban experience of openness to the world.

More sporty, hiking enable us to walk longer, in a cleaner air, while enjoying the landscape with the eyes (the eyes are the sense organs of the gall bladder meridian, which imbalance causes mental and anger. That is why a landscape with no visual barrier has a calming effect on the mind and nerves).

Anti-stress effects

The delightful dizziness described by walkers is like the state of flow described in the findings of a study conducted at Duke University, United States: a state of pleasure due to the secretion of endorphins, cousin hormones of morphine, which blocks the pain circuits and flood the emotional brain. According to the U.S. researchers, a half-hour of brisk walking practiced without running three to five times a week would have the same effect as an antidepressant.

Health benefits

We are bipedal, and our inner nature is to walk from one place to another. Walking, whether in town or in nature, is a way to recover the balance of our body that has been altered by physical inactivity. Walking five miles per hour, a half-hour to an hour a day, helps prevent and fight against cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s disease. It also off-load tensions and breathe better by adjusting our breathing to the rhythm of the steps. The day is filled with opportunities to walk: going to lunch, shopping, running errands, going to the cinema or restaurant with friends … As soon as you can, replace the car, subway or bus at least a portion of the journey. Begin by walking for 5 minutes, then 10, and increase to at least half an hour at a time.

A process of transformation

Adventure is around the corner. Saunter reintroduced the unexpected in our lives. Suddenly, random places, events, faces, generate surprising ideas, insights or audacity, that we are free to capture or to let go… Despite the crowds and noise, walk “dreamily” reconnects us with our deepest desires. It is a detour to round up, reconnect ourselves to our resources of endurance and creativity. Beating the streets of our cities is like a journey that begins just on our door step.
