Mental manipulation is a means of subjection and influence by way of psychological mechanisms. It is harmful when it affects the judgment ability and well-being (self-esteem, depression, physical health).

Brainwashing, disinformation, emotional blackmail are examples of mental manipulation. Mental manipulation has serious psychological and somatic consequences on the victim. Therefore it is important to recognize manipulative persons. However, they often hide under various masks that they adapt depending on the person, situation or goal.

Moreover, they are often charming and seemingly well-intentioned! The best way to recognize them is to single out their techniques:

  • Make others feel guilty
  • Delegate responsibilities
  • Communicate in a fuzzy way, delivering ever-changing information
  • Engineer discord
  • Belittle others
  • Constantly change behavior depending on time and situation.
